The New York Fashion Week lost some big names this year, but also gained a few new faces that are fresh on the fashion scene. You won’t see Proenza Schouler, Thom Brown or Rodarte on this year’s schedule but you’ll witness a few exciting fashion debuts. The daughter of the former supermodel Cindy Crawford is now eligible to be part of the NYFW. The 16-year old Kaia Gerber is already a familiar face in the fashion world. Just recently she starred in a campaign for the new perfume Daisy by Marc Jacobs. Her runway debut is also expected to be at Marc Jacob’s show.
There are also some designers who will show their collections during the NYFW for the first time. Snow Xue Gao, Lou Dallas and Barragan and LRS will have their debut this year. The most popular new names are Daisy and Matthew Adams Dolan. If you haven’t heard by now, Rihanna is obsessed with Dolan’s jeans while Kim Kardashian West loves to wear Daisy’s designs. Their shows will most certainly have many familiar faces in the first rows. The SS2018 NYFW will be the most progressive one yet. The plus-size clothing brand Addition Elle will show its inclusive designs for the first time on the NYFW. The model Ashley Graham will flaunt her curves on the brand’s show.
There are multiple changes in the NYFW this year. Since many big names moved to Pairs the NYFW will be shorter for a day. The fashion week will start on September 7 and will end on September 13. Brooklyn isn’t considered as the most fashionable neighborhood in New York City, but that’s about to change this year. Many designers opted for Brooklyn venues to show their spring/summer 2018 collections. Designers want to connect with their audience and show their collections in a unique atmosphere. The classic runway concept seems a bit unconventional for this purpose. That’s why many designers will show their collections outside of the runways in smaller venues. Narciso Rodriguez and Rag and Bone will welcome the spectators in their studios. The audience will have a chance to see the collections at the very same places they were born.
The fashion-forward audience will also have a chance to enjoy a selection of fashion films. The in-between show time will be filled with innovative snacks. Apparently, the NYFW does everything in its power to keep the audience entertained even though some important names are missing from the schedule.
