Congratulations to Rihanna for becoming the first woman to ever win the title “Shoe of the Year” at the 30th Annual Footwear News Achievement Awards for her Fenty Puma Creepers.
The shoe (seen below) has had phenomenal success since the initial launch in September 2015. These shoes sell out within hours whenever a new design is released. In her acceptance speech at the IAC building in Manhattan, Rihanna stated “I didn’t expect people to love it the way I do, and the way they’ve supported it means so much to me,”. Michael Atmore, FN’s editorial director who presented Rihanna with the award said “Shoe of the Year is the most coveted award because it truly reflects industry dominance,”.
The talented singer/designer, who is only 28, had every right to be proud of her accomplishments, after all this award is like the Oscars of footwear. In addition to wearing the famed “Creeper” Rihanna wore a long-sleeved black top and baseball cap from Vetements with the word “Securite” printed across the front of both. Rihanna, who serves as creative director for the Puma, designed the shoe with input from avant-garde menswear label Mr. Completely, who had previously re-invented the classic adidas Gazelle into a creeper.
Last year’s recipient was no other than Mr. West for the Yeezy Boost 350.
